About 2 Burts Industries

2 Burts Industries is a family-owned business based in Mackay, Queensland, operated by husband-and-wife team Robert and Katrina Burt. While proudly based in Central Queensland, we travel Australia-wide to support clients across the mining, agricultural and industrial sectors—and beyond.

The business was established after Robert identified a gap in the market: non-destructive testing and inspections in hard-to-reach or potentially hazardous areas needed a safer, more efficient approach.

Robert has worked in the mining industry since leaving school and has extensive experience in CHPP maintenance. As a trade-qualified maintenance coordinator and certified drone pilot, he understands the importance of identifying wear and damage early. His approach is simple—where possible, it is better to maintain and repair equipment before replacement becomes necessary.

Katrina brings more than 14 years of mining industry experience, along with firsthand experience owning and operating her own business. As Operations Manager, she oversees the day-to-day running of 2 Burts Industries, from preparing quotes and coordinating projects to building client relationships and explaining complex inspection technology in plain language. You will often find her representing the business at industry and networking events.

Why we do what we do

Traditional inspections and testing can require personnel to enter confined, elevated or difficult-to-access areas. Our specialised drone technology reduces the need to place people in these environments while capturing detailed visual inspection data and ultrasonic thickness measurements.

Each test point is digitally recorded and linked to its location within a 3D model. This gives maintenance teams a clear record of where testing has been completed and where repairs may be required, helping reduce the time spent locating affected areas during future maintenance and shutdowns.
